• WRC Successes In The Last Years

  • 7,484 struggling readers were tutored by the Reading Corps members. All members received training in research-based tutoring methods.
  • 54% of students tutored met benchmark or gained a grade level in reading. Students entered the program a grade or more behind in reading.
  • 80% of students improved in their reading behaviors, attitudes and self-confidence as reported on teacher assessments.
  • Children received individualized attention, with an increased focus on literacy activities.
  • Reading Corps members recruited 5,157 community volunteers who donated 71,292 hours of tutoring service (valued at $20.85/hr = $1,486,438).
  • Reading Corps members recruited 2,177 peer and cross-age tutors who donated 16,409 hours of tutoring service.
